The curator speech

Welcome to the Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao.

TianJin is the 2nd hometown for Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao. They met and fell in love here, and they accompanied each other on the march down the road of China’s revolution throughout their lives. After their passing, their ashes were spread on the Hai River as they had requested in life. As a sign of our respect and love for the role they played, this Memorial to them was open on Feb 28th, 1998.

This is the only Memorial in the world dedicated to two politicians who were also a married couple. This is the place that people memorialize their glorious lives, respect their great achievement and thinking, and inculcate their revolutionary spirits.

The Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao adheres to the principle “operate the Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao with Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao’s spirit”, insist on the strategy of “building the Memorial on good services, strengthen its value with rich resources, and with a cohesive management, thereby ensuring the success of the Memorial through the talent of its people”. Due to years of hard work, the Memorial has become an outstanding first class national museum with special characteristics and high social value. It has received wide praise as a key site in national red tourism, and as a national patriotism education center, and as a monument to honest and civic minded governance.

The Seventeenth session of the sixth CCP plenary conferences started the development towards a special Chinese Road to socialism, and TianJin also set its own target on its cultural development. The Springtime for a cultural blooming has arrived. The Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao will play a more important role in realizing the meeting of this goal, and we will work harder to contribute more towards the building of the special Chinese socialist culture.
